Obal’s Inn · Broad St, Bloomfield · since 1952
The corner that
knows your name.
Good food and drink on Broad Street for seventy-four years. Every mark on this wall is a real review from a regular who came back.
Tonight’s setup
Wednesday is the smoker. Thursday is ribs. Every night is the game.
On the screens
Whatever the season demands. Multiple TVs around the room, the game always on, and a crowd that actually watches. Pool table in back, darts on the wall, shuffleboard is free.
Out of the kitchen
The ribs are the main event. Wednesday and Thursday they come off the smoker falling off the bone, the kind NJ.com tipped a cap to. Burgers on newsprint, fries in the basket, and a Sunday brunch from 11 to 3 that out-eats half the diners in town.
Behind the taps
Cold drafts, honest pours, and bartenders the reviews thank by first name. Tall drinks, fair prices, nobody rushing you out.

The corner
Some bars have customers. This one has a rescue record.
Stanley and Madelyn Obal open the doors at 439 Broad. The sign says Good Food & Drink. It still does.
The Janes family takes the keys and never lets go. Same corner, same name over the door.
A closing notice goes up in February. Two weeks of regulars refusing to accept it later, the lights are back on. That fall, when Hurricane Ida floods the place, the neighborhood raises over $10,000 to fix it. Twice in one year, this bar was saved by the people on this wall.
Talk at the bar runs from town affairs to sports to herb gardening. Sit down once and they’ll remember your pour.
